For The Book of Liz we wanted to embrace a medieval wagon as our master symbol. Initially we tried using wood cuts and ulitimatley found that a combination of historical and recreated artifacts could be projected to evoke a religious context and mood.
This production was a challenge due to the fact that the script was scathing social commentary and would not present as such in the ‘heartland’ it sought to satirize. We took a more provincial approach to the comedy and found a pleasant alternative interpretation.
